If we are meeting for the first time, I owe you an explanation. I’ve written a book called the Last Good Day on the Internet which travels a path from the glory of the open web, through the unraveling of our digital world to a new age of human intention.
This story is personal. For the best part of forty years, I have been telling stories of the future. First as foreign correspondent, then as a successful tech entrepreneur and eventually as a leader inside big technology companies like Twitter.
In all that time, the only skill I’ve had is to look around the corner and help people feel some sense of personal agency over the future, some hand on a lever than might create a positive outcome. For most of that time, the stories I told were spoken not written. The stories that shaped me came through video, audio and first-person conversation.
So I knew I needed something more than words to tell the story of the Last Good Day on the Internet. I needed to create a living archive of the human conversations, landmark events and eye-witness footage that are mentioned in the book.
I hope this website will become an active conversation, which brings us together every week in a collective search for hope and humanity in this superhuman age.
